Dawn-Joy Leong

DJ“It is not my intention to ‘fix’ what is ‘broken,’ but rather to empower beauty in the imperfect and vulnerable.” Dawn-joy Leong is an Autistic multi-artist whose ongoing transdisciplinary research and practice challenges rigid entrenched perceptions and introduces novel intimate insights into Autism. Her investigations propel her along quite unexpected trajectories, and her methods include flipping pages of imagination, dancing around polyrhythmic-chromatic-pandiatonic mental fires, meandering through mazes of discombobulation, humming in and out of tune, and embracing new ways to sense and be. She is accompanied on her adventures by her faithful canine angel and muse, Lucy, a Greyhound rescued from the cruel racing industry. The title of Dawn-joy’s current Ph.D dissertation is “Scheherazade’s Sea – autism, parallel embodiment and alternative empathy.”
